The building's large floor
plate and its configuration with only two of its four sides overlooking
streets, made the planning of the apartments a particular challenge.
But the fourteen-foot high ceilings, large windows, wood floors,
and historic details more than offset the difficulties of the floor
plate, and combine to give the residences their unique character.
In the center of the building, generous lobbies are interconnected
through the floors, terminating with a two-story atrium under a
skylight at the roof. The public spaces of the building are
designed to reinforce the open and sociable aspects of downtown
apartment living, while at the same time evoking the spirit of the
building's distinguished past. David Wise acted as project architect
for John Carney & Associates.
