Washington
County Courthouse
The elegant
Federalist courthouse in Akron, Colorado is a landmark on the high
plains. Constructed in 1906 the well preserved structure was carefully
refinished on the exterior with a new roof, repair to the formed
sheet metal cupola and cornice, mortar repointing and new high performance
paint. Many electrical and other attachments to exterior brick walls
and roof were identified and removed. A new elevator and accessible
restroom were carefully fit inside and all new woodwork was designed
to match the original. Federal standards for courtroom planning
and safety were adapted to the historic building. The structure
is now much more useable. Finishes, fixtures and equipment been
upgraded to serve the county for decades to come.
